Standby generator overhaul and load test, office building in the City of London

A high-pressure fuel leak found during a load bank test led to a full fuel system overhaul of a standby generator at a City office.

Project overview

Project-managed overhaul of the standby generator serving a multi-tenant office building in the City of London, delivered for its facilities management provider.

SCOPE

Carry out a load bank test on the building’s standby generator, diagnose the faults it revealed, and manage the specialist repair through to a successful on-load retest.

WHAT WE DID

The attempted load bank test found a high-pressure fuel leak and signs of wet-stacking on a lightly run engine. We isolated the set, project-managed the manufacturer-approved specialist through the overhaul, and oversaw the removal of the fuel manifolds, accumulators and high-pressure pipework, the fitting of new injectors and pipework, a borescope inspection and bleeding of the system, then an on-load test and a 1200 kW load bank test.

OUTCOME

A standby generator that passed its full load test, with a written report and recommendations for coolant replacement, fuel polishing and an ongoing planned maintenance schedule.
