Kitchen ventilation and gas interlock assessment, crown court in Surrey

An independent assessment of a court kitchen’s ventilation, gas interlock and appliances, with a clear recommendation to move obsolete gas equipment to electric.

Project overview

A commercial catering gas and ventilation assessment of the staff kitchen at a crown court, delivered for its facilities management provider.

SCOPE

Confirm whether the kitchen ventilation and gas interlock met current standards and report on the condition and safety of the gas-fired catering appliances.

WHAT WE DID

Our commercial gas engineer tested the gas interlock and confirmed it complied with BS 6173, surveyed the extract canopy and make-up air, and inspected each appliance. Several of the gas appliances were obsolete and lacked flame failure protection, so we set out the options and recommended converting the kitchen to electric catering equipment rather than investing further in the gas installation.

OUTCOME

A written assessment the client could act on immediately, removing a long-standing uncertainty over the kitchen’s compliance.
